Once the eCDR module is enabled, we recommend that you continue to maintain a paper register for a minimum of 4-6 weeks to ensure all staff are appropriately upskilled and that all interim CD dispensing’s are cleared, also before the eCDR module is enabled, You will need to contact your Proscript Customer Technology account manager to place an order and sign a declaration.
The Controlled Drugs Register (CDR) enables you to record legal information related to the receipt, possession, supply and adjustment of controlled drugs (CDs). This information may then be audited internally or by a GPhC inspector to ensure your pharmacy is complying with legal requirements and regulatory standards.
CDR entries can be created manually from the CDR Manager, and automatic CDR triggers will display for Schedule 2 CDs (and Schedule 3 CDs if configured) during the dispensing process.
ProScript Connect’s integrated Controlled Drugs Register (CDR) module is also known as the electronic Controlled Drugs Register (eCDR).
CDR Manager
The CDR Manager acts as a central hub to record any and all instances of CD processing, including CDs awaiting collection, expired CD stock, destroying expired CD records, CDs returned to your pharmacy and the weekly CD balance check. There is also a dedicated tab for GPhC inspectors to leave notes whilst auditing without disrupting the pharmacy’s dispensing process.
You can access the CDR Manager from the top left-hand corner of the ProScript Connect Main Screen by clicking the [ProScript Connect] menu button and selecting the CDR Manager menu item.

Weekly Balance Processes
The Weekly Balance tab displays the current running balance of all CDs in your register down to individual pack level. You are required to check the physical balance at regular intervals in order to identify irregularities and discrepancies as quickly as possible. New CD entries, goods in, adjustments and weekly balance checks will be recorded within the CD Register.

Items Awaiting Collection Processes
The Items Awaiting Collection tab displays all items which are ready to collect, some of which may require secure storage in a CD cabinet, safe or room. Any items that are awaiting collection will not be written to the CD register; only upon collection will an entry be made within the CDR.

Expired Stock Processes
The Expired Stock tab is where you can manage your expired CD records, from marking them as expired to their destruction. They must only be destroyed in the presence of an authorised witness. Marking stock as expired, and the destruction of expired stock will be recorded in the CD Register.

Patient Return Processes
The Patient Return tab is where you can manage CDs that are returned to your pharmacy. CDs being destroyed should be witnessed by a member of staff. No patient return activity is recorded in the CD Register.

Inspector Log Processes
The Inspector Log tab acts as a central hub for GPhC inspectors to access and cross-examine the CDR, without disrupting the pharmacy’s dispensing process, in order to check whether the pharmacy is complying with legal requirements and regulatory standards. Actions taken on the Inspector Log tab will not be recorded in the CD Register.

CDR Reporting
You can print and export various CD related reporting, including the CD Register report. Examples of other reports include Stock Balance, Patient Returns and Items Awaiting Collection which can be accessed across the tabs available within the CDR Manager window.
CDR Integration Processes
When CDR is enabled, the module impacts the dispensing, ordering and stock control of CDs through CDR triggers.
CDR Dispensing Integration
At the end of a CD item’s endorsing process on the Patient Medication Record (PMR), a CDR trigger displays, prompting you to either save the item as awaiting collection or collected to the CDR. Any items that are awaiting collection will not be written to the CD register, and only upon collection will an entry be made within the CDR.

CDR SDM Integration
CDR triggers will display when processing Substance Dependency Module (SDM) instalments prompting you to mark the item as awaiting collection in the CDR Manager once dispensed, and to add the item to the CD Register once the item has been collected. Any items that are awaiting collection will not be written to the CD register, and only upon collection will an entry be made within the CDR.
We recommend amending the SDM/ID Script Expiry Days Controlled application setting to reflect the duration of your SDM prescription.

CDR Ordering & Stock Control Integration
The system will prompt you to add CD items to Goods In once you have booked it in from the Ordering Manager, if configured. All CDs added through Goods In will be written to the CD Register.
