Real Time Exemption Checking (RTEC)

Real Time Exemption Checking (RTEC)

RTEC enables pharmacy teams to check if a patient is exempt by digitally referencing the NHSBSA database. ProScript Connect will perform the check as part of your dispensing process, saving you time and improving accuracy.

Pharmacies in England will receive a communication pack from the NHSBSA which includes the business change material, poster and cover letter for the team and customers.

RTEC is currently available for the following exemptions (with the remaining to follow at a later date):

• Maternity

• Medical

• Prescription prepayment

• HC2 (full help)

• Tax credits

Benefits to the pharmacy:

• Enhanced digital dispensing process for pharmacy staff

• Reduced risk of prescription fraud

• Increased patient convenience

• Reduced risk of incorrect EPS prescription submission

• Reduced printing of EPS tokens for patients whose exemption has been verified

Register for RTEC:

We will be enabling the RTEC functionality in ProScript Connect over the coming weeks, however, it is important for contractors to ensure that they have agreed to the terms of the RTEC user agreement prior to using the functionality.

Contractors will need to complete the RTEC registration form in the NHS BSA’s Manage Your Service (MYS) application. Details can be found on the PSNC website: https://psnc.org.uk/dispensing-supply/eps/electronic-prescription-service-eps-sitemap/real-time-exemption-checking-rtec/

Additional Validations:

In addition to enabling the RTEC functionality, we will also be enabling the validation of exemption checks in order to further support the RTEC functionality and make your processes more efficient.
