ScriptCheck

This functionality is only available to customers using the Electronic Prescription Service in England and Wales.

ScriptCheck has been developed to allow pharmacists to carry out the clinical check for ETP prescriptions in batches within the ScriptCheck Manager screen.

Scripts are downloaded, tokens printed and processed in the usual way, and are automatically added to the ScriptCheck Manager screen. ScriptCheck Manager lists prescriptions waiting to be clinically checked by the pharmacist prior to labels being printed. The pharmacist can carry out the clinical check for new scripts via the Clinical Check screen. This screen displays information to support the pharmacist in completing the clinical check, for example a preview of the drug label, a screen view of the prescription, links to view any warnings and drug interactions as well as the patient’s drug history. Where a patient has multiple scripts added to ScriptCheck Manager, these will be displayed together on the Clinical Check screen to be checked as a batch.

Alternatively, if a pharmacist is logged in and is processing scripts, they have the option to mark each script as clinically checked during the dispensing process – this clinical check will then appear in ScriptCheck Manager.

Once clinically checked by the pharmacist, drug labels and bag labels for each script are printed from ScriptCheck Manager by other members of the pharmacy team. Accuracy Checking Technicians can complete the accuracy check.

Getting started

Before using ScriptCheck, we suggest your pharmacy considers some workflow changes to ensure the time saving efficiencies that ScriptCheck brings are fully utilised. Our ProScript Connect trainers have put together some implementation points for you to consider.

Clinical check retention

The retention of the clinical check has been registered as a Medical Device and is marked with the UKCA certification.

ScriptCheck will retain a clinical check from a patient’s previously dispensed prescription (up to 6 months), where all items have previously been clinically checked. When the repeat prescription is next dispensed, the clinical check is automatically retained, subject to no changes having been made to the prescribed items.
