Prescription Collection Point (PCP) Service

Prescription Collection Point (PCP) Service

The Prescription Collection Point (PCP) functionality automates the handing out of dispensed prescriptions and lets your patients pick up their medicines whenever it’s convenient for them – they no longer have to queue or suffer a wasted journey to check their medicines are ready.

It’s the simple and secure way to make your dispensing process more efficient while giving your patients unrivalled convenience.

PCP allows patients to collect prepared prescriptions from the pharmacy 24 hours a day (if the pickup point is ‘ATM’ style outside the pharmacy).

Benefits of PCP

  • Frees pharmacists and their staff to focus on counselling and consulting by making the dispensing process more efficient.
  • Drive customer loyalty by removing the need to wait for prescriptions. Patients can now conveniently collect their medicines.
  • Drive customer loyalty by giving patients the freedom to collect their medicines when it’s convenient for them with a six-digit pin sent by email or text.

Marking the prescription for PCP

  1. Once you have dispensed a prescription, click F8 – Last Item.
  2. On the Prescription Type preview, select Alt+F6 – PCP.
  3. Enter Prescription notes, if required, and then click F10 – Save. You may be prompted to add contact details if they are missing from Patient Details.
  4. The system will generate a barcoded label. This will be used to scan the prescription into the PCP.

Tip: You can configure Alt+F6 – PCP to be selected by default, details in the Application Settings section below.

Adding the items to the PCP

Once a prescription is checked and bagged, the barcode label should be applied to the bag and is ready to be uploaded into the PCP machine for the patient to collect. Once loaded, the patient will receive an SMS message and/or email advising that the prescription is ready to collect.

  1. Once the prescription is ready, scan the barcode into the PCP machine.
  2. If contact details are missing for the patient, a warning message is displayed.
  3. Patient details will need to be added before loading into the PCP with the barcode.
  4. If No is selected, a reminder label is printed.
  5. Enter the items into the PCP machine.

Tracking the prescription using the Prescription Tracking Manager

Once you have dispensed a prescription and added it to the PCP, you can use the Prescription Tracking Manager to track or update the status of the prescription. The status of the prescription will update automatically but if required, the status can be manually updated.

To access Prescription Tracking Manager, click ProScript Connect, then select Prescription Tracking Manager.

On the Patient Tracking Manager screen, the PCP column displays the current state of the prescription.

Tip: You can use the PCP filter to view PCP Only prescriptions or to view a specific PCP status.

The table below explains the different states that will be updated depending on the status of the prescription:

Status Explanation
Dispensed The prescription has been dispensed and is ready to be loaded into the PCP.
Loaded The prescription has been loaded into the PCP and is ready for the patient to collect.
Collected The patient has collected the prescription.
Cancelled The prescription has been cancelled.
Withdrawn The prescription has been removed from the PCP.

Manually update the PCP status

If, for technical reasons, communication is temporarily lost between ProScript Connect and the PCP machine or you need to withdraw a prescription, the Prescription Tracking Manager can be used to manually update the PCP status of a prescription.

  1. From the Patient Tracking Manger screen, click F7 – Update PCP status.
  2. On the Update PCP Status screen, click F2 – New Status, and select the required status.
  3. To save the new status, click F10 – Save.
