Changes to the NMS payment structure and fees

The new contractual settlement details have been announced that included changes to how pharmacies are paid for the NMS service. Previously, pharmacies were only paid on completion of the ‘Follow Up’ stage. They will now be paid separate fees for the completion of the ‘Intervention’ and ‘Follow Up’ stages. As we work to incorporate these new changes into ProScript Connect, we have provided these steps on how to get the stage completion figures from the system.

  1. From the ProScript Connect Main Screen, click ProScript Connect, then select NMS Manager.
  2. Select the relevant date filter and NMS stage.
  3. Click Print NMS Details.
  4. From this point, you can either:
    1. Count the figures from this page
    2. Export to CSV

To export:

  1. Click the arrow beside the Save icon, then select CSV (comma delimited).
  2. Save the CSV file to your preferred location.
  3. Open the saved file.
  4. Review these key columns:
    Column Data
checkBoxDetailIntervention Gives the total number of NMS records with the ‘Intervention’ stage completed.
checkBoxDetailFollowUp Gives the total number of NMS records with the ‘Follow Up’ stage completed.

Users will need to keep an eye out for NMS records that need consolidating. Where a patient has multiple NMS records initiated on the same date, these should be counted as one record.

Meeting the new guidance

To meet the new guidance, you need to subtract any Interventions where the medication has been stopped by the GP and any Follow Ups where the patient did not attend.

To identify these:

  1. From the ProScript Connect Main Screen, click ProScript Connect, then select NMS Manager.
  2. Using the Stages filter, Completed Not Claimable, count any Interventions that are highlighted in orange as Medication has been stopped by the GP. These can be added to the Intervention claim figure.
  3. Using the Stages filter, Completed Claimable, count any Follow Ups that are highlighted in red as the Patient did not attend the Follow Up. These need to be subtracted from the Follow Up claim figure.

Based on the NMS guidance, Interventions should be claimed in the same month that the Follow Up is completed where the Follow Up stage is carried out.
