There will be intermittent supply of all strengths of lisdexamfetamine (Elvanse®) capsules until April 2024. Supplies of various strengths of Elvanse® will be available at different times throughout this period. Generic dexamfetamine 5mg tablets and Amfexa® (dexamfetamine) 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg tablets remain available but are unable meet large increases in demand. Unlicensed supplies of lisdexamfetamine capsules can be sourced, lead times vary.
If dispensing the unlicensed product the following guidance should be followed to ensure correct reimbursement:
Paper Prescriptions
If dispensing the unlicensed product on a paper prescription, the prescription should be written as ‘lisdexamfetamine capsules Xmg (Special Order)’. If not, reimbursement may only be made based upon the Drug Tariff VIIIA price. When searching for the product on ProScript Connect, the [Imported] record should be selected from the picking list and the prescription should be endorsed with the standard non-Part VIIIB specials endorsements.
ETP Prescriptions
Imported listings for various strengths of lisdexamfetamine capsules have been added to the NHS DM+D Browser. If selected by the prescriber and dispensed on an ETP prescription it will link an [Imported] record in PSC and the prescription should then be endorsed with the standard non-Part VIIIB specials endorsements.
If the prescription does not link an [Imported] record and is not for the special order entry you would be unable to endorse and be reimbursed for the special order product on an ETP prescription. In this case a paper prescription should be obtained and the above guidance followed.
