Prompts to identify Original Pack Dispensing (OPD) eligible items and a display tag for OPD applied items were introduced in ProScript Connect® v1.31.0.
For information on OPD configuration, eligible drugs, details on the +/- 10% allowance, and the rounding rules, see our Original Pack Dispensing article.
Apply OPD when dispensing
- Process the script as usual.
- On the Dispense EPS Prescriptions screen, the system will look at the quantity prescribed for the selected drug (in our example, 90 Ibuprofen 200mg tabs) and if OPD is eligible, a prompt message is displayed, when the screen closes.
- To proceed to apply OPD, click Yes. If No is selected, the system proceeds as normal.
- On the Choose Item for OPD supply screen, the selected item is listed with all its available pack sizes within its OPD range. In the example below, pack sizes are shown for 16, 24, 48, 84 and 96.
- Select the required pack size to be dispensed, then click F10 – OK. In our example, we selected a 16 tablets pack.
OPD on the PMR screen
On the PMR, the OPD is shown applied (in our example, 6 packs x 16 tablets = 96 tablets).
Any other items listed on the same prescription that would be eligible for OPD to be applied, will also receive the same prompt, for example, if you change the quantity. From the prompt you can then apply OPD to the selected item.
Product Choice
If F3 – Product Choice is selected for the OPD applied item, only the pack size selected for OPD will be displayed. In our example, only 16 tablets pack sizes are displayed.
Split packs are not allowed for OPD supplied items.
Edit items with OPD applied
For items that have had OPD applied, when you edit the quantity, the following prompt is displayed.
- To remove the OPD flag, before the quantity can be edited, click Yes.
- On the Drug Quantity screen, enter the required quantity, then click F10 – OK.
If you have edited a quantity that could be eligible for OPD, the same prompt as before is displayed, asking if you want to apply OPD to this item.
Remove OPD from an item
On the Edit Prescription Dispensed screen, if you need to remove the OPD applied to an item, click F12 – Remove OPD. A warning message is displayed.
If do wish to proceed, click Yes. The quantity then reverts to its original quantity and the OPD tag is removed.
Restricted items
In Restrictions Manager you can specify an item is only available to be dispensed or ordered from certain manufacturers. OPD can be applied to restricted items, meaning that when processing an OPD only restricted items will be able to be selected.
In our example, restrictions have been applied to Perindopril erbumine 4mg tabs.
1. The script is processed as usual, and if OPD is enabled, the following message is displayed.
2. To apply OPD, click Yes, and only the restricted items for the selected item are displayed to be selected.
3. Select the required item, then click F10 – OK.
4. The OPD tag is added to the selected item.
5. Complete the processing of the script as usual.
Owings
When creating an Owing, if OPD has been applied to the item, the OPD tag is displayed throughout the Owings process.
