Original Pack Dispensing (OPD) has been introduced in England to give pharmacists the flexibility to dispense up to 10% more or less of an eligible product, compared with the quantity prescribed. This means that the product can be supplied in the manufacturer’s original pack, reducing time spent splitting boxes and repackaging medicines to dispense the exact quantity.

OPD was introduced into ProScript Connect in v1.30.7.

When dispensing prescription using an off-site dispensing solution (ODS) workflow, OPD adjustments can be applied to an item in the usual way:

  • During processing
  • From the PMR
  • Editing the prescription

ODS partners include Golden Tote, FlowRx, Pick to Prescription and MediPac.

To assist the pharmacist in completing the accuracy check and clinical check from the Hub Queue Manager, there is visibility of the prescribed and actual dispensed quantity on:

  • The Queue tab
  • The Accuracy Check screen
  • The Clinical Check screen

OPD and Off-site Dispensing Solution (ODS)

Example: A prescription for an eligible item has been received with a prescribed quantity of 28 and the drug comes in a 30 pack. OPD has been applied and the actual dispensed quantity amended to 30. The prescription is added to the Hub Queue Manager Queue tab.

The Queue tab

  1. From the Queue tab, highlight the prescription.

    • 30 in the Dispensed Qty column

The Accuracy Check screen

    • The prescribed quantity in the PMR History field
